Traditional Indonesian Wooden and Bamboo Rice Cutting Knives

FOR COLLECTORS: an incredible assortment of traditional wooden and bamboo rice cutting knives (ani ani) from Indonesia.

  • 15 ani ani or rice cutting knives perfect for collectors. Some knives are made of bamboo, others of wood. Instead of using a scythe for cutting their rice, the people of Java would hold an ani ani between index and middle finger, thus hiding the blade in their palms, and cut the rice in small bundles. This was done out of respect for Dewi Sri, the goddess of prosperity, who would be offended by the shiny metal blades. Wonderful addition to any collection.
